Modern residence in the countryside in South Korea: Living Knot

Architectural bureau Polymur recently completed the development of a modern residence, located in the agricultural village of Gangneung. This project is a modern interpretation of a traditional Korean villa to maximize contact with outside locations. Its name "Living Knot" suggests the connection of two main parts, accentuated by the use of different materials.

The dwelling is not only divided visually, but also functionally: “Two voluminous parts divide the space of the house into private living areas and public spaces. During the design process, the interaction between them produced a certain uncertainty that caused a direct use of space. “Each interior is characterized by openness, one of the main features is the “borrowed” traditional Korean design of the villa.
