Freshome founder Michael Mihai-Christian recently visited Israel for Kinetis (Kinetis is a non-profit educational organization established to promote and recognize Israel at home and abroad as a vibrant and inspiring source of creativity and innovation).
It was in Israel that he began his creative and commercial relationship with the architect Joseph Corey of Geotectura. At the same time, Israel's participation in the international competition Solar Decathlon 2013 in China was announced. This is a competition for best interior design projectsthat challenge teams of architects to design, build and operate solar-powered homes that are devoid of traditional energy sources, affordable, energy efficient and visually appealing.
According to a press release issued by Joseph Corey, it is reported that in the summer of 2013 a team from Israel will take part in the Solar Decathlon for the first time.
A group of Israeli designers took great inspiration for their design of the "4-room Israelite House", from an ancient Mediterranean architectural structure discovered in the Israel region. This building, built 3500 years ago, with preserved rooms, was found as a result of excavations and studied by designers. The rooms of this ancient house are built around a central patio with a large patio that creates a gradual transition from common to private space, which was the idea for a modern project.
The building incorporates design features that create a special thermal envelope and maintain a comfortable living environment with minimal heating or cooling. Windows, walls and floors are designed to maximize the collection, storage and distribution of solar energy in the form of heat in winter and to protect against excessive heat in summer.
Since 2002, the Solar Decathlon Architecture Competition has attracted more than 90 teams and influenced thousands of collegiate participants in interdisciplinary research, design and construction of energy efficient solar homes. For more information, you can watch the video.
