Architecture of the Week: Vibrant Design Gallery in Chile

The Nueva Costanera Avenue area in Santiago is renowned for its cultural and architectural identity. Recently, this area has been enriched with another extraordinary building. According to the project of the architectural bureau "Gonzalo Mardones Viviani", a commercial design gallery of the company "Miele" was built. From a distance, the building looks like a gray rectangle, when you get closer, you begin to pay attention to the unusualness of many decisions. The facade of the building is made up of many glass planes located at different angles. This creates a surface like a polished crystal, sparkling under the rays of the Chilean sun.

The authors of the project are trying to get away from the monotony of the correct geometry of the exhibition space in various ways, for example, by placing exhibition exhibits not only on the floor, but also by hanging them one above the other on special structures. Best of all, they did it with the help of color schemes. The light gray color of the walls of the three-height room of the gallery harmonizes well with the brown, natural-colored floors and the abundance of sunlight. This was not enough for the designers and they actively used red - the corporate color of the Miele brand. Arranged asymmetrically on the left side of the building, the bright red structure begins with a set of stairs that pierce the two main floors of the building, the basement. This design ends with a vertically and horizontally deployed superstructure of the technical floor. In several places, the red color of the structure spills out of the volume of the building, which looks very unusual and original. The building looks even better from the outside under artificial lighting, the orange tones of which add warmth to the interior.
