Hotel in the old fortress

The Spitbank Sea Fort in the Solent Strait (part of the English Channel), which previously protected the harbor of the most important English port of Portsmouth from the sea, is considered by the British to be a monument of British history. It is surprising that the enterprising British managed to get permission and turn the old fort into an unusual and comfortable hotel. You can get here only by sea and outwardly the fortress looks untouched since its construction.

Having fully preserved the fortress architecture and construction of the building, the designers completely rebuilt the interior, providing them with the latest achievements of luxury and comfort. Eight former armory rooms house fashionable rooms, seven are service rooms. It is clear that at the same time, designers were not embarrassed by considerations of stylistic unity, on the contrary, the masonry of brick vaults and fortress walls is paradoxically combined with comfortable bedrooms, contrasting with them in materials and lighting. The difficult task of combining modern communications and household amenities with fortress architecture was also successful.
