On the upper floors of the building in the old East Village (New York, USA) there used to be a concert hall. Photographer Gregory Colbert (current owner of the two-story apartment) put a lot of effort into turning it into a luxury home. But no tricks of the designers were able to turn the initially huge volumes into a normal living space. American "gigantomania" is visible in each of the ten rooms - the hall, which has remained similar to an aircraft hangar, a giant studio with a kitchen, a bedroom that can accommodate a soldier's parade ground. Eclecticism characteristic of American design is visible throughout, especially in one of the bedrooms, where antique style is mixed with "African" and "Scandinavian".
The use of expensive materials, furniture, designer decorations raised the price of Beethoven Hall many times (from $6 million in 2004 to $25,000,000 today), but did not make the apartment a work of design art.
