Furniture coloring. Basic principles

In order to change the situation in your home and update the interior, it is not enough to replace curtains, lamps and rearrange furniture. The best solution for changing the interior is to buy new furniture or restore and paint it.

Furniture coloring has its own nuances, which must be observed and approached with special care, while not forgetting about the preparatory work, on which the perfect staining result will also depend.

To paint the surface of wooden furniture, as professionals advise, you will need the following tools: sandpaper, paint tray, primer, paint, putty, masking tape, roller or brush, degreaser, gloves and a respirator. In addition, varnish and a special liquid that cleans surfaces of paint and allows you to do without the use of sandpaper for sanding can come in handy. As a means for degreasing, you should not use kerosene and gasoline solvents, as well as white spirit, because they leave a greasy film on the furniture, preventing the paint from being absorbed normally.

Doors and fittings must be removed before painting furniture., and it is also necessary to remove the boxes and disassemble the main structure as much as possible. Then you need to clean the surfaces of wax, grease, layers of varnish and old paint, sand them with sandpaper. After that, the treated surfaces must be wiped with a damp cloth.

After twenty minutes, you can start puttying cracks, bumps and other various defects, while making sure that the surface does not become glossy, otherwise the paint will not be able to stick to it.

Porous surfaces, for example, such as chipboard, are best primed after puttying, which will allow you to significantly save on the amount of paint used. The choice of primer depends on the paint, for example, an acrylic primer will work under acrylic paint. The primer can be applied with a roller or brush, distributing evenly in a thin layer.

After completing all the necessary preparatory work, you can start painting the furniture.

There are several basic rules that must be observed when painting.

Firstly, in the rooms where the staining will be done, there should not be high humidity.

Secondly, the furniture is usually painted in two layers, while it is possible to start applying the second layer directly only after the first one has completely dried. The paint is applied in the same direction, strictly along the wood fibers.

If desired, the furniture can be painted in two colors. To do this, the surfaces painted with the first color must be sealed with masking tape to prevent paint of a different color from getting on them.

Refurbished furniture can transform any interior, while you will not need to worry about its service life, because it receives reliable protection from pests and adverse environmental influences for many years.
