Interior of the week: Country mansion of designers

Having inherited a rural country house near Antwerp (Belgium) from their grandmother, designers Mark and Hilda Mertens not only completely reconstructed and decorated it, but also turned into a kind of advertising exhibition of their creativity. Every month they organize an "open day" when everyone can visit the entire house for free, including the sauna and cellar. This method justifies itself, especially since there are a lot of interesting things in the house. Viewers can get acquainted with the style of artists, which they define as "Flemish", feel all the objects with their own hands, talk with designers, and place an order.

The house retained the principles of traditional architecture outside and inside - with sharp slopes of a tiled roof, an attic floor, fireplaces and indispensable chimneys. The combination of the pale tones of the old wood with the surrounding greenery and the water of the pool is extraordinarily beautiful. The interiors of the house do not look like an exhibition, the author's works are harmoniously combined with antique fireplaces and ceiling beams. There is no excessive passion for antiquity in the house, which turns it into a museum - old wicker baskets, stools, wooden washing troughs are used as utilitarian items and decorations. Thanks to the reconstructed windows, the house is flooded with light and spacious, it has a lot of old and new wood, original author's decorations.
