Oh, how difficult it is to sit in stuffy rooms on warm summer days. So you want to drop everything and go somewhere out of town, on a picnic with a barbecue. But, unfortunately, by the weekend, when the dreams of fragrant meat will already be practically realized, the weather can be somewhat upset and give you, on the one hand, a very long-awaited, and on the other hand, not at the right time, rain. So that the weather "surprises" do not upset the plans, and the gatherings with barbecue still take place, it is enough just to have a brazier with a roof in everyday life.
It can be made in various interpretations. For example, in the country it can be installed permanently.

Barbecue under the roof for a summer residence
There are interesting mobile options for barbecues with roofs, many of which are not difficult to do with your own hands. How? More on that below.
back to index ↑What is the roof made of?
“Since we will put the roof over an unusual object, it will have to withstand unusual influences, such as high temperatures and smoke enveloping”
Barbecue, as an essential attribute of a country holiday, is almost every summer resident. It can be bought on occasion or made by inspiration. In any case, you just have to improve the item a little by equipping it with a reliable roof, and the barbecue will take place in any weather.

Which of the roofing materials to give preference in this case? Certainly durable. Since we will put the roof over an unusual object, it will have to withstand unusual influences, such as high temperatures and smoke envelopment. Heat coming from below will cause condensation to form at the top, so priority should be given to materials with such qualities as:
1. Heat resistance.
2. Moisture resistance.

The material for the roof must be moisture resistant and heat resistant.
The corrugated board responds most well to temperature and humidity changes. A metal sheet of this class has a specific polymer coating, which prevents it from rusting and adds visual appeal. You can find corrugated board in the color that will be in harmony with the general stylistic decision of the design of the site.

The supporting frame for such a roof can be assembled by welding pipes or a metal profile. A good roof will turn out:
- from slate;
- ceramic tiles;
- metal tiles.

But it is better not to take cellular carbonate for this role. It will not only be driven from high temperatures, it can catch fire.
What size to make a roof, you must decide for yourself. In general, this indicator will depend on what tasks it is planned to assign to it. In any case, the roof should be noticeably larger than the barbecue area. Only in this case will she be able to completely protect the coals and food from the effects of wind and rainwater, so collect material with some margin.

The area of the canopy should be larger than the barbecue area
With which one - you can calculate according to the working drawing, if you are not too lazy to draw one.Otherwise, the money can be wasted, although, in principle, even the smallest scraps of modern roofing materials can always be used in a summer cottage.

As for the forms of roofs over the barbecue, they can be any:
- lean-to;

- semicircular;

Semicircular roof for barbecue
- gable;

- arch type.

Each of the presented options is good in its own way. The roof can be made lightweight and capital, with or without a pipe. The last element is worth a closer look. The pipe, located directly above the brazier, will provide quality traction and protect against acrid smoke. He will not eat out the eyes of the cook standing at the barbecue and guests sitting nearby. For the arrangement of a pyramidal smoke collector, 2 meters of a wide pipe will be enough.

When deciding what shape to make a roof for the barbecue, do not forget that it must fit into the architectural ensemble of the site. This fact is especially important for stationary structures that do not leave the territory of the yard either in winter or in summer. They should please the eye, and not become a splinter.

Do-it-yourself brazier under the roof
You can make a brazier from different, sometimes the most unexpected materials and objects, but it is with a roof that structures made of brick, stone, and metal look best.
Brick variant
This is a permanently installed object, so you need to think carefully on which part of the local area to place it. Brick brazier alone under the roof is rarely placed. Usually, it is combined with a covered gazebo, the area of \u200b\u200bwhich is divided into zones. Instead of a bulky oven, it is better to put a small brazier combined with a barbecue.

In closed gazebos, the barbecue can be combined with a fireplace and cooking surfaces in pots.

Barbecue in the gazebo of a closed type
A brick brazier requires a foundation, so the first step in its construction will be preparing a pit for its bay. A seven-centimeter layer of sand is poured at the bottom of the excavated trench of the given parameters. Next, a reinforced mesh is laid and formwork is placed. Now you can pour concrete. The above-ground part of the foundation should be up to 10 cm. Upon completion of the pour, it is left to harden for several weeks.

Foundation for a brick barbecue
Important! The foundation is poured not only under the future hearth, but also along the perimeter of the gazebo, which is being equipped under the same roof with it.
When the drying process is completed, the formwork is removed and the foundation is waterproofed. This is done by covering the latter with a sheet of roofing material. Now everything is ready for forcing the main part of the barbecue.
The first two basement rows of bricks are laid in a continuous layer, after which the type of masonry may change in accordance with the intended pattern.
The furnace part of the brazier is expelled from heat-resistant brick laid on a sand-clay mortar. In the remaining areas of the facility, they work with a cement-sand composition. When the brazier is ready, you can proceed to create a platform for the gazebo and install the roof. Support pillars under the latter can also be laid out of brick or wooden logs, metal pipes can be used as this.

The shape of the roof is chosen in accordance with your vision of the future object, however, it will be quite good if you can fit it into the environment.

It remains to arrange everything beautifully. The decor of the barbecue can be done with ceramic tiles. It is better to cover the floors of the gazebo with paving slabs. In a more economical option, a screed is acceptable.

Finishing the fireplace with ceramic tiles
A metal profile or a nicer metal tile is taken to the roof.
Stone variant
“When laying stone walls, you need to use a plumb line so as not to “fill up” the vertical and not to warp the object, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but it will hardly stand, unlike this miracle of architecture”
An even more durable and exotic version of a stationary brazier under a roof is a stone hearth. Since this is a very heavy structure, it must also be placed on a solid foundation.

Stone barbecue-hearth for giving
A construction cord will help mark the place under it. Then a hole is dug along the perimeter of the marking, about a depth of about a shovel bayonet. Rebar is laid in the prepared ditch and poured with concrete. After the formation of the foundation, they begin to build the above-ground part of the barbecue on it. Its basement will consist of three levels. The first two spans will become a place to store firewood, while the third will play the role of a locker. When laying stone walls, you need to use a plumb line so as not to “fill up” the vertical and not to warp the object, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but it will hardly stand, unlike this miracle of architecture.

Stone hearth construction
The middle part is a place for arranging a brazier. Here you need to work with refractory material. On top of it, you can install a barbecue grill.
The place around the barbecue is decorated with rubble stone. The boundaries of the paved area can be expanded, then you will have the opportunity to put a table with chairs under the same roof as the object.

Stone paved area in front of the barbecue
All concreted sections of the structure are plastered, and the inside of the barbecue walls in the brazier area are laid out with special tiles, which will be easy to clean after using the hearth.
The final step will be the installation of the roof. It is attached to the corners, leaning on the brazier itself and the floor near it.

Brazier from a pipe
This is perhaps the easiest and most budgetary option to recreate from all of the above. You won’t believe it, but from a simple piece of large-diameter pipe you can make a trouble-free, durable and very aesthetically pleasing brazier.

The basis of the structure
To quickly make a mobile version of a country barbecue, you will need a thick-walled pipe with a cross section of 35 centimeters or more. Why thick-walled? Because, logically, a thin-walled base will quickly burn out and deform, and after all, your plans are unlikely to include the annual assembly of braziers.

Thick-walled pipes for barbecue
Before you start creating, decide on the size of the main part of the object - the brazier. Its length is calculated based on the number of servings planned for simultaneous preparation. Considering that the distance between the skewers should be at least 8 cm, we get the average length of the brazier 95 centimeters. The width is determined by the length of the skewer.

The width of the brazier depends on the size of the skewer
Making a lid for the brazier
Do you doubt whether your brazier needs a cover if it will stand under a large roof? In vain. This element in the design is extremely useful. The presence of a lid will allow you to use coal more economically. In open barbecues, at the end of the cooking process, the heat is poured with water or left to burn out to the ground, but the firebrands could still serve. By closing the lid and the blower hole, you block the access of oxygen to the inside of the brazier. The burning will stop, and the coals will stop smoldering. If there is no task to completely stop this process, then when closing the lid, leave a small gap in the blowing zone. The temperature in the chaga will be maintained at an optimal level, and you can put a new batch of meat into the grill at any time.

To cut a cover from a pipe, you need a grinder. To attach the element to the brazier, ordinary door hinges are used.

Now the question arises about the convenience of opening / closing a functioning barbecue. Of course, it is more convenient to lift the lid by holding the handle. It is usually welded in the center of the lower edge of the hinged structural part. You can make a handle from a reinforcing bar or use a standard door model.

legs
What is good about a do-it-yourself brazier is a comfortable height. During the assembly process, you can weld legs of any length to the brazier. You do not have to stand bent over or turn the skewers while crouching on the crusts. A simple test will help determine the height of the legs. Take a tape measure, step on the beginning of the tape with the toe of your shoes, then stand straight and bend your elbows at almost a right angle. Record the score. Subtract the height of the brazier from the result obtained, and you will get the desired parameters for the size of the legs.

Canopy or full roof?
A light canopy for mobile structures is the most optimal. It will perfectly protect against the vagaries of nature and will not allow caustic smoke to accumulate around the barbecue. The hinged type roof can be made mobile, that is, changing the angle of inclination and adjustable in height. This is very convenient when precipitation is accompanied by gusts of wind. You can always put the roof in the position that is relevant at this particular moment.

Improving the brazier
The interior space of the barbecue grill in the country can be improved by adding, for example, a ready-made barbecue grill. It can be cut from an old section of metal fence or bought at a store.

You can prepare a place in the brazier for installing a cauldron and cook friable and special-smelling pilaf there.
back to index ↑Conclusion
Perhaps someone thinks that rather than fiddling with igniting the barbecue, it is better to cook all the dishes on a gas stove. Indeed, it will turn out faster, and the weather for this process will not be a decree, but the dishes will not please with the exceptional aroma and taste that only the heat from natural charcoal can give them!
